Christophe Dugarry has criticised Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr for his angry reaction to being substituted in El Clasico, accusing him of “whining all the time” and “insulting” coach Xabi Alonso.
Real Madrid’s 2-1 El Clasico victory over Barcelona was overshadowed by controversy surrounding Vinicius Junior’s furious reaction to being substituted by coach Xabi Alonso. The Brazilian winger stormed off in anger after being replaced by Rodrygo in the 72nd minute, later returning to the bench visibly frustrated.
Former France international Christophe Dugarry slammed the player’s behaviour, calling it disrespectful and unprofessional. Speaking on RMC Sport’s Rothen s’enflamme, he said: “I loved Mbappe’s game, I loved his attitude, I loved his behaviour, unlike Vinicius, who is just unbearable. He’s always whining, he’s always crying at the referee, at the opponents… He insults his coach. That’s it, I think it’s too much.”
Dugarry went further, saying, “Insulting your coach like he did. ‘I’m going to leave,’ but your performances, they’re not even up to scratch… Get out, man, get out. Your performances are not at the level. He annoys me, he whines all the time.”
Reports suggest tension between Alonso and Vinicius has persisted since the Club World Cup in July, with the player often benched or substituted early. The incident has reportedly unsettled Madrid’s dressing room, with some teammates sympathising with Vinicius while others see his attitude as disruptive.
Club president Florentino Pérez is said to be monitoring the situation closely as speculation grows that Vinicius could seek an exit if tensions continue.
