Watford FC has unveiled a special-edition kit dedicated to Sir Elton John, celebrating his 50th anniversary as chairman. Watford Football Club has revealed a special-edition kit as a tribute to their most celebrated supporter and former chairman, Sir Elton John. This unique kit commemorates the 50th anniversary of Elton John's tenure as Watford chairman, a period that witnessed the club's impressive ascent from the Fourth Division to the First Division.
The design of the kit draws inspiration from the artwork of Elton John's 2017 "Diamonds" greatest hits album. It features a subtle star motif across the front of the shirt, along with a silver Watford crest and Kelme logos. Adding a touch of nostalgia, the club's retro "Happy Hornet" badge is placed on the hem. The collar and cuffs are adorned with additional star details, enhancing the overall theme. On the reverse side of the kit, lyrics from Elton John's iconic song, "Your Song," are embossed, creating a meaningful and personal touch.
This special strip, a collaborative effort with Elton John himself, is scheduled to be worn by the Hornets during their Championship match against Blackburn Rovers. The launch of the kit marks the beginning of a series of celebrations honoring Elton John's significant contributions to the club. His leadership in 1976 played a pivotal role in Watford's transformation and success.
To promote the kit's release, current Watford players recreated some of Elton John's most famous album covers while wearing the full kit. Defender Kevin Keben paid homage to "Jump Up!" with a bowler hat, while Mattie Pollock celebrated "Rock of the Westies." These creative recreations highlight the fusion of music and football, embodying the spirit of Watford and Elton John.
The kit is not only a symbol of the club's history and its connection to a music icon but also a fashionable statement that blends sport and culture. It serves as a reminder of the profound impact Elton John has had on Watford FC and the broader community.
Half music, half football, all Watford – this one’s a showstopper worthy of the Rocket Man himself.
