Wesley Fofana, Hannibal Mejbri, share sickening racist messages after Chelsea draw with Burnley

Chelsea’s Wesley Fofana and Burnley’s Hannibal Mejbri were subjected to vile online racist abuse following their 1-1 Premier League draw on Saturday, prompting both clubs and the Premier League to demand immediate action against perpetrators.

Chelsea has expressed disgust after Wesley Fofana was targeted with racist messages following his red card in Saturday’s draw with Burnley. Fofana, who shared screenshots of the abuse on Instagram, stated: “2026, it’s still the same thing, nothing changes. These people are never punished. You create big campaigns against racism, but nobody actually does anything.” Chelsea responded by calling the abuse “abhorrent” and vowed to work with authorities to ensure the strongest possible action is taken.

Burnley’s Hannibal Mejbri also faced similar hatred, prompting a firm club statement: “There is no place for this in our society and we condemn it unreservedly.” Hannibal urged followers to “educate yourself and your kids pls” after sharing the derogatory messages he received. This surge in abuse mirrors the ongoing UEFA investigation into Gianluca Prestianni, who recently allegedly admitted to using a homophobic slur against Vinícius Júnior as a defense against separate accusations of racial slurs.
