What Cristian Romero did in Tottenham dressing room after Man Utd red card causes Arsenal issue

Tottenham captain Cristian Romero will serve a four-match ban, including the North London Derby, following a straight red card for a reckless challenge on Casemiro.

Tottenham manager Thomas Frank has confirmed he will not strip Cristian Romero of the captaincy despite the defender’s second red card of the campaign.

The Argentine was dismissed just 29 minutes into Spurs’ 2-0 defeat at Old Trafford after a high challenge on Manchester United’s Casemiro.

Because it marks his second dismissal this season, Romero’s standard suspension has been increased to four matches, ruling him out of critical upcoming fixtures against Newcastle, Arsenal, Fulham, and Crystal Palace.

Despite the tactical blow and recent social media friction between the player and the board, Frank revealed that the defender immediately sought to make amends with his teammates.

“No, there is not [regrets about making him captain],” Frank said. “He’s apologised to his team-mates in the changing room. He’s one of our most important players.

He doesn’t have any intention to get a red card. Cuti tried to go for the ball. You play with passion and aggression and there’s a fine line. He’s apologised to the team and that’s enough for me right now, there’s nothing more to do.”
