Twenty-one countries have already qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup as England aim to secure their place with a win over Latvia tonight.
As the FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifiers near completion, 21 nations have already booked their place in the tournament set to be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
England, under manager Thomas Tuchel, are on the verge of sealing qualification when they face Latvia tonight (Tuesday, October 14). A win would take them to 18 points and guarantee top spot in Group K. “It would end 60 years of hurt and bring football home,” Tuchel said earlier this week.
England currently lead their group with 15 points from five games, followed by Albania with 11 points and Serbia on seven. A victory would ensure Albania cannot overtake them, while a draw or defeat would delay qualification until November.
Japan were the first nation to qualify outside the co-hosts. Mohamed Salah’s Egypt also return after missing the 2022 World Cup.
Countries qualified so far:
Asia: Australia, Iran, Japan, Jordan, South Korea, Uzbekistan.
Africa: Algeria, Egypt, Ghana, Morocco, Tunisia.
North & Central America: Canada (co-host), Mexico (co-host), United States (co-host).
South America: Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay.
Oceania: New Zealand.
The World Cup draw will take place on December 5 in Washington DC, while the tournament kicks off on June 11, 2026, with Mexico hosting the opening match at the Estadio Azteca. The final is scheduled for July 19 at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
