Vinicius Jr’s anger during Madrid’s 5–0 win stemmed from frustration with teammates ignoring him, not a row with Alonso.
Vinicius Junior’s visible frustration during Real Madrid’s 5–0 Champions League victory over Kairat Almaty was aimed at his teammates, not coach Xabi Alonso, Spanish outlet AS reported.
The Brazilian winger was substituted with 20 minutes left and gestured towards Alonso, prompting speculation he was upset with the manager. However, Vinicius was reportedly annoyed that players such as Arda Güler and Franco Mastantuono failed to pass to him in promising positions.
Alonso later dismissed the incident as a “comment that we understood,” not a complaint. Despite leading Madrid in assists this season, Vinicius has been overshadowed by Kylian Mbappé and finished just 16th in the 2025 Ballon d’Or standings.
Last week, Levante defender Unai Elgezabal accused Vinicius of being “disrespectful” after a clash during a penalty incident, saying: “Sometimes, it has to be said that enough is enough.”
