Wolves appoint Rob Edwards as new head coach

Wolves have appointed Rob Edwards as head coach, replacing Vitor Pereira after a poor start to the Premier League season.

Wolves have confirmed the appointment of former Middlesbrough manager Rob Edwards as the club’s new head coach, according to a report from THE LONDON STANDARD. Edwards succeeds Vitor Pereira, who was relieved of his duties just weeks after signing a new three-year deal, following a winless start in the Premier League, culminating in a 3-0 defeat to Fulham.

James Collins, the club’s Under-21s manager, had taken charge on an interim basis, losing 3-0 to Chelsea in his only match. Gary O’Neil, previously considered for the role, withdrew from negotiations, prompting Wolves to target Edwards.

Edwards joined Middlesbrough in the summer on a three-year deal, succeeding Michael Carrick, and was granted permission to enter talks with Wolves. He leaves Boro sitting second in the Championship, having won seven of 15 matches, but failed to win either of his two matches in charge before his departure.

Returning to Wolves where he played from 2004 to 2008, Edwards also served as interim manager in 2016 following Walter Zenga’s sacking. He is set to make his return to Molineux when Crystal Palace visit after the international break.

“Rob’s connection to the club is strong, and we believe he can take Wolves forward,” a club spokesperson said, highlighting the decision to bring back the former player.
