Wolverhampton Wanderers have strengthened their defensive line by securing the signature of David Moller Wolfe from AZ Alkmaar. The young left-back has inked a five-year contract with the Premier League club, joining for a reported fee of £10 million (€11.4 million). He becomes Vitor Pereira's third signing of the transfer window, signaling the club's intent to reinforce their squad for the upcoming season.
Wolfe spent two seasons showcasing his talents in the Eredivisie with AZ, where he made 92 appearances in all competitions. During his time in the Netherlands, he netted four goals, with three of those coming in the most recent term. Besides his contributions in defense, Wolfe also displayed playmaking abilities, boasting the joint-second-most assists among AZ players in the top-flight. Only Sven Mijnans and Peer Koopmeiners surpassed his tally of six assists.
Defensively, Wolfe played a crucial role for AZ, helping them keep eight clean sheets last season. Furthermore, he demonstrated his tackling prowess, winning the third-most tackles on the team (25) despite ranking seventh for attempted tackles (30). This showcases his efficiency and effectiveness in winning back possession for his side.
Wolfe expressed his excitement about joining Wolves, stating, "It feels amazing. I'm so, so happy and so proud to be a part of Wolves. I felt incredibly wanted from the second I talked to Domenico [Teti] and the second I talked to the coach." He also highlighted the allure of the Premier League, noting its popularity in his native Norway and expressing his eagerness to play in front of the Wolves fans.
Adding a touch of personal sentiment, Wolfe joked about his surname aligning with his new club, saying, "Personally, I think it's pretty cool to have that surname and then to play for Wolverhampton. Me and my brothers have actually joked a little bit about it a couple of years ago, and now it is turning into a reality. I think it was meant to be."
