Matchday 3 of the WSL season promises exciting clashes, including Tottenham vs. Man City and Man Utd vs. Arsenal. The Opta supercomputer predicts Man City, Chelsea, Everton, Brighton and Aston Villa wins. The Man Utd vs Arsenal match is tight, but Man Utd has the edge.
The 2025-26 Women's Super League (WSL) season continues with matchday three, promising exciting matchups across the board. Several teams are vying to maintain their perfect starts, while others are desperate to secure their first points. The weekend features a clash of titans as Manchester United hosts Arsenal, and Tottenham faces Manchester City, potentially ending the flawless records of some top contenders.
Tottenham vs. Manchester City
The action kicks off at BetWright Stadium on Friday, with both Manchester City and Tottenham aiming to build on their recent victories. Manchester City, under Andree Jeglertz, secured their first win by overcoming an early goal from Brighton to win 2-1. Tottenham, on the other hand, continued their impressive start with a 2-0 victory over Everton.
Despite Tottenham's strong start, the Opta supercomputer predicts a Manchester City victory, giving them a 68% chance of winning. Tottenham's win probability is only 14.5%, with a 17.5% chance of a draw. This prediction is influenced by Tottenham's historical struggles against Manchester City, having won only one of their 11 WSL encounters, losing the other 10. Their sole victory was a 2-1 comeback win in September 2021.
Tottenham, led by Martin Ho, is among the teams with a perfect record in the 2025-26 WSL season. A win here would mark their second time winning their opening three matches in a league campaign, the first being in 2021-22 when they won their first four. Spurs' defense has been notably solid, facing just one shot on target this season, the joint-fewest in the league alongside Manchester City in 2016. However, historically, Tottenham has averaged 19 shots against and seven shots on target against City in their previous meetings.
Manchester City boasts Khadija Shaw, who has a prolific record against Tottenham, scoring 12 goals in the WSL. Only Vivianne Miedema has scored more against a single opponent in the competition (14 against Bristol City). Shaw's three hat-tricks against Tottenham are a league record, making her a key threat in this match.
Everton vs. London City Lionesses
The London City Lionesses have faced a challenging start to their WSL journey, conceding nine goals in their first two matches, including a 5-1 defeat to Manchester United. Only Crystal Palace and Yeovil Town have conceded more in their first two games in the competition. The Lionesses are looking to avoid becoming the first team since Leicester City in 2021-22 to lose their first three matches.
Everton, after a strong Merseyside derby win, were brought back to earth with a 2-0 loss to Tottenham at Goodison Park. The Toffees are winless in their last three WSL home games. The Opta supercomputer predicts Everton to win, giving them a 48.7% chance compared to the Lionesses' 25.6%. Everton's strong record against newly promoted teams, remaining unbeaten in their last 10 WSL games, further supports this prediction.
Chelsea vs. Leicester City
Champions Chelsea are heavily favored to win against Leicester City, with a 90.7% win probability according to the Opta supercomputer. Sonia Bompastor’s side are unbeaten in their last 27 WSL games after beating Aston Villa 3-1 last weekend. They have also dominated their WSL encounters with Leicester, scoring 38 goals in eight games, averaging 4.8 per game.
Sam Kerr's return to form, marked by a goal against Aston Villa, adds to Chelsea's strength. Kerr has a strong record against Leicester, having either scored or assisted in each of her four league games against them.
Brighton vs. West Ham United
Both Brighton and West Ham United are seeking their first points of the season. West Ham suffered a heavy 5-1 defeat to Arsenal, while Brighton lost to Manchester City. Brighton is predicted to win, with a 46.4% win probability, compared to West Ham's 27%.
Aston Villa vs. Liverpool
Aston Villa and Liverpool are both aiming to improve their starts to the season. Liverpool has lost their last four WSL games, while Villa is winless in their opening two matches. The Opta supercomputer favors Aston Villa, with a 44.7% win probability compared to Liverpool's 28.4%.
Manchester United vs. Arsenal
The highlight of matchday three is the clash between Manchester United and Arsenal. Both teams are coming off impressive 5-1 victories. The Opta supercomputer predicts a slight edge for Manchester United, giving them a 40% chance of winning compared to Arsenal's 33.4%.
United have lost just one of their last 12 home games in the WSL. Arsenal, however, have won two of their last three games against United. Expect goals, as both teams have been in excellent scoring form recently.
