European fans condemn ‘extortionate’ 2026 World Cup ticket prices

Football Supporters Europe (FSE) has strongly protested the “extortionate” and “historically” high ticket prices for the 2026 World Cup, which are nearly five times the cost of the previous tournament, calling on FIFA to immediately halt sales and review its pricing structure.

Football Supporters Europe (FSE) has demanded an immediate halt to ticket sales for the 2026 World Cup, protesting “historically” high and “extortionate” pricing.

The group released a statement condemning the ticket costs allocated to Participating Member Associations (PMA), warning that the record figures threaten to price out dedicated supporters from attending the tournament next summer.

FSE highlighted a massive increase in costs compared to the previous World Cup.

Following a national team from the first match through to the final would cost fans a minimum of $6,900 via the PMA allocation, which is “nearly five times as much as during the FIFA WC 2022 in Qatar.”

This full amount must be paid in February, regardless of an earlier team exit.

The supporters criticized FIFA for not making the lowest price Category 4 tickets available through PMAs, reserving them instead for general sales under dynamic pricing.

FSE slammed this as a “monumental betrayal of the tradition of the World Cup.” Furthermore, FIFA is introducing variable pricing based on the “perceived attractiveness of the fixture.”

FSE also called out broken promises, noting the 2018 bid had guaranteed tickets as low as $21 and a full final package costing $2,242 in the cheapest category.

The group has now called on FIFA to “immediately halt PMA ticket sales, engage in a consultation with all impacted parties, and review ticket prices” to restore transparency.
