Wrexham goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo switches allegiance to Nigeria

Former England youth international and current Wrexham goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo has received FIFA approval to represent Nigeria at the senior level.

Wrexham goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo has officially committed his international future to Nigeria after FIFA approved his change of association.

The 24-year-old Londoner, who qualifies through his parents, previously represented England from under-15 to under-18 levels.

Following a standout Championship campaign with ten clean sheets, the former Arsenal academy graduate is now eligible to join the Super Eagles’ senior goalkeeping ranks immediately.

The switch could see Okonkwo reunite with fellow former Arsenal youngsters Alex Iwobi and Semi Ajayi in the national setup.

His decision comes as Nigeria prepares for upcoming friendlies against India and Poland following their failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

Meanwhile, Okonkwo remains a vital asset for promotion-chasing Wrexham, where his career is described as an ‘unfiltered’ success following two consecutive promotions.
