Former Premier League referee David Coote has pleaded guilty to making an indecent image of a child. The 43-year-old entered his plea at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday in connection with a category A video — the most serious classification — discovered by police in February.
Coote, from Collingham, appeared in court wearing a navy suit and black tie. During the six-minute hearing before Judge Nirmal Shant KC, he spoke only to confirm his name and enter his guilty plea. He was granted conditional bail and is scheduled to return to court for sentencing on December 11.
“You have pleaded guilty to a serious matter,” Judge Shant told him. “Whether this means custody or not will be decided when all the information is before the court, which is why I have ordered a pre-sentence report.”
Coote was dismissed by Professional Game Match Officials Limited in December 2023 after a video surfaced showing him making remarks about former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp. He was later suspended for eight weeks by the Football Association in August over the same incident.
