President Trump said he could relocate the 2028 LA Olympics if safety or preparedness issues arise.
President Donald Trump has suggested the 2028 Summer Olympics could be moved from Los Angeles if the city fails to meet safety and readiness expectations. Speaking Tuesday while addressing concerns about next year’s FIFA World Cup matches in Boston, Trump said, “If I thought LA was not going to be prepared properly, I would move it to another location, if I had to.”
The president added he might “need a different kind of permission” because of Los Angeles’ contract with the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The IOC later confirmed the Games “have the full support” of Trump, California’s governor, and LA’s mayor.
Trump, who signed an executive order in August to lead a White House task force on the Games, also criticized Boston Mayor Michelle Wu and California Governor Gavin Newsom, warning cities to “clean up their act.”
