Nigeria’s Super Falcons, captain Rasheedat Ajibade, goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, and several other stars have been nominated for the 2025 CAF Awards, reflecting a dominant year for Nigerian women’s football.
Nigeria’s dominance in women’s football has once again been recognised as the Super Falcons and several of their stars lead the nominees for the 2025 CAF Awards announced on Friday.
Captain Rasheedat Ajibade, who inspired Nigeria to their record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in Morocco, has been shortlisted for the African Player of the Year award. She is joined by team-mate Esther Okoronkwo, who scored twice and assisted four goals during the tournament, earning the Woman of the Match award in the final.
Ajibade, who plays for Paris Saint-Germain, was also voted Player of the Tournament at WAFCON 2024. In the Goalkeeper of the Year category, Brighton’s Chiamaka Nnadozie is eyeing a third consecutive win after two previous triumphs.
The Super Falcons have been nominated for National Team of the Year, while coach Justine Madugu is in contention for Women’s Coach of the Year. The U-17 Flamingos and their coach, Bankole Olowookere, are also shortlisted after an unbeaten World Cup qualifying run.
Flamingos captain Shakirat Moshood is among the finalists for Young Player of the Year, while Bayelsa Queens, winners of the 2025 Nigerian Women’s Football League, earned a nomination for Club of the Year.
