Nottingham Forest captain Ryan Yates says players must take responsibility following the sacking of manager Ange Postecoglou after just 39 days in charge.
Nottingham Forest captain Ryan Yates has urged his teammates to “look in the mirror” following the club’s decision to sack manager Ange Postecoglou after only 39 days in charge.
The 60-year-old Australian was dismissed moments after Forest’s 3-0 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday — the shortest reign of any permanent manager in Premier League history. Owner Evangelos Marinakis reportedly left the stadium before ordering Postecoglou’s dismissal, which was confirmed shortly after his post-match debrief.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Yates confirmed that the manager had addressed the players before leaving the City Ground for the final time. “Ange came in after the game, debriefed the game, and then I went out to do some running, came back and obviously the news had broken, that he’d gone,” he said.
Yates admitted the players shared responsibility for the team’s poor results, adding: “We need to do more as players. It starts with us on the pitch. We haven’t been good enough. We need to look at ourselves in the mirror individually, and we need to put things right.”
Postecoglou departed without a win from eight matches in all competitions. Former Everton boss Sean Dyche and ex-Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini are reportedly being considered as possible replacements at the City Ground.
