Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich are closing in on Pep Guardiola’s Bundesliga record after a flawless start to the 2025/26 season.
Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany is closing in on Pep Guardiola’s record for the best-ever start to a Bundesliga season. The reigning champions have begun the 2025/26 campaign with eight consecutive wins, boasting a remarkable goal difference of +26 — a first in league history.
Guardiola, who managed Bayern between 2013 and 2016, set the current record by winning his first 10 matches of the 2015/16 campaign. Kompany’s side will now aim to surpass that milestone, but tough fixtures against Bayer Leverkusen and Union Berlin lie ahead.
Statistically, Kompany’s progress mirrors Guardiola’s during their respective Bayern tenures. Both coaches average 2.52 points per game in the Bundesliga. After 42 matches in charge, Kompany has earned 106 points (33 wins, seven draws, two defeats), while Guardiola had collected 110 points (35 wins, five draws, two losses).
Kompany acknowledged the challenge after Bayern’s latest victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach, saying, “We can’t stop now and have to keep going; we have good momentum. We can’t get too arrogant. We must stay calm, work hard, and deliver a result in the next game.”
While the club’s main goal remains defending the league title, breaking Guardiola’s record would mark another milestone in Kompany’s promising tenure.
