Achraf Hakimi, the Morocco National and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) left-back, has been named the 2025 African Player of the Year in the men’s category at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) awards.
The announcement was made on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, during the official award night held in the Moroccan capital of Rabat.
According to a report from TVCNews, Hakimi won the prestigious individual accolade ahead of strong competitors, specifically Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen and Egyptian star Mo Salah.
Hakimi’s victory was secured following an “impressive season that saw him win multiple trophies for his club, including the most notable Champions League.”
The CAF awards ceremony was convened to formally recognize the exceptional performance of Africa’s players and coaches across global football.
The criteria for consideration strictly covered contributions made during the period from January 6 to October 15, 2025.
The selection process was meticulous, involving a comprehensive panel of football experts. This group included members of the CAF Technical & Development Committee, several experienced coaches, renowned CAF Legends, and selected media representatives.
This panel was tasked with selecting the initial 10 nominees for each category, evaluating their collective performances across all club and national competitions.
Hakimi’s crowning marks a significant achievement, affirming his status as the best male player from the continent for the year 2025.
