Lazio defeats AC Milan 1-0 in Coppa Italia

Lazio gained revenge against AC Milan, winning 1-0 in the Coppa Italia Round of 16 to secure a quarter-final spot against Bologna.

Mattia Zaccagni scored the decisive goal in the 80th minute from a Nuno Tavares corner, eliminating last year’s finalists.

According to a report from Football Italia, Lazio secured their revenge against AC Milan just days after a controversial Serie A defeat, knocking the Rossoneri out of the Coppa Italia Round of 16 with a 1-0 victory at the Stadio Olimpico on December 4, 2025.

This victory allows the Aquile to progress in the competition and set up a quarter-final fixture against Bologna.

The match was a tightly contested affair, with both sides missing key chances in the first half.

Lazio’s Toma Basic sent an angled drive inches wide, while Taty Castellanos scuffed a poor back-pass into the arms of Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan. Maignan also produced a crucial reaction save to deny Gustav Isaksen’s volley just before the break.

The second half saw Milan attempt to apply more pressure, but their finishing proved inadequate. They wasted a huge opportunity when Rafael Leao ballooned a ball over from eight yards following Pervis Estupiñán’s cross.

The decisive moment arrived in the 80th minute. Following a corner awarded after an effort from Tijjani Noslin, Mattia Zaccagni peeled away from his marker to score with a free header at the near post, assisted by Nuno Tavares.

In stoppage time, Lazio keeper Christos Mandas ensured the clean sheet remained intact, as he “flew to palm away a Christian Pulisic scuffed strike from just inside the box on Davide Bartesaghi’s cross,” confirming the narrow win and eliminating last year’s Coppa Italia finalists.
