Liverpool goalkeeper Rafaela Borggrafe has received a six-match ban and mandatory education for using discriminatory language toward a teammate during the club’s pre-season.
Liverpool goalkeeper Rafaela Borggrafe has been handed a six-game suspension and ordered to complete an FA education programme following an investigation into her use of discriminatory language toward a teammate during a pre-season training camp.
The 25-year-old German, a summer signing from SC Freiburg, has already served five matches of the ban while the Football Association reviewed the incident, which reportedly involved an allegedly racist remark.
Liverpool manager Gareth Taylor confirmed that the club adhered to all FA protocols by reporting the matter immediately and noted that Borggrafe will serve the final match of her sanction during Sunday’s Women’s FA Cup fourth-round tie against London Bees.
Addressing the conclusion of the disciplinary process, Taylor remarked, “The situation is the situation. The team and the club acted in the appropriate way. We supported the FA.
It has dragged on a bit, which has been frustrating for everyone involved, particularly Rafaela. We’re happy now that it is completed and happy we have got some details on what it looks like. We all can move on.”
