Police investigate racist abuse targeting Romaine Mundle after Sunderland game

Northumbria Police and Sunderland AFC have launched a joint investigation into “vile” online racist abuse directed at winger Romaine Mundle following Sunday’s Premier League fixture against Fulham.

Northumbria Police and the UK Football Policing Unit are investigating reports of racist messages sent to Sunderland’s Romaine Mundle after yesterday’s match against Fulham.

The club expressed outrage, confirming they are working with online platforms to identify the perpetrators.

A police spokesperson stated: “We condemn all forms of discrimination – it has absolutely no place within society and our communities.”

Sunderland AFC has vowed to take the strongest possible action against those responsible, asserting that the offenders are not welcome on Wearside.

The club remains committed to supporting Mundle throughout the legal process.

A spokesperson emphasized: “The abhorrent behaviour displayed by multiple individuals is unacceptable and will not be tolerated by the Club under any circumstances.”
