Inter favoured for Scudetto as Costacurta analyses Milan’s mental hurdles

Pundit Alessandro Costacurta believes Inter Milan remain the clear favorites for the Serie A title, despite recent setbacks, while emphasizing that AC Milan must overcome mental inconsistencies against smaller clubs to truly challenge their rivals.

Inter Milan legendary defender turned pundit Alessandro Costacurta has tipped the Nerazzurri to clinch the Scudetto, citing their superior focus on the domestic title.

Speaking at the World Legends Padel Tour, he noted that Inter’s recent elimination by Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League impacted their morale, but expects a strong response in their upcoming clash against Atalanta.

“I reckon Inter will win the Scudetto,” Costacurta stated, while highlighting that Inter currently holds a seven-point lead over second-placed AC Milan.

Regarding AC Milan, Costacurta praised Massimiliano Allegri’s leadership but pointed to a recurring “mental issue” when facing lower-ranked teams.

He argued that while the mid-season arrival of veterans like Luka Modrić has transformed the team’s mentality, the squad still lacks a defensive anchor in the vein of Franco Baresi.

He advised the club to prioritize finding a clinical focal point in attack this summer to finally solve the “Leao puzzle.”

Costacurta also defended Alessandro Bastoni amid recent fan hostility following a controversial incident against Juventus.

He urged supporters and the media to move past the error to ensure the defender is focused for Italy’s upcoming World Cup play-offs.

“Let’s leave him in peace – he’s got to take us to the World Cup,” Costacurta remarked, dismissing the calls for the center-back to be excluded from the national team as “nonsense.”
