The CAF Appeal Board has sensationally stripped Senegal of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title, awarding Morocco a 3-0 forfeit victory following the Lions of Teranga’s mid-match protest and walk-off.
In an unprecedented ruling, the CAF Appeal Board has overturned the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final result, crowning Morocco as champions.
The decision follows a protest regarding Senegal’s walk-off during the match in Rabat.
Although the team eventually returned to play and won on the pitch, CAF ruled that the initial abandonment breached tournament regulations, resulting in an administrative 3-0 defeat for Senegal.
The controversy began when a VAR-awarded penalty for Morocco sparked a furious reaction from the Senegalese bench.
While the tournament hosts were handed the trophy, they still face significant financial penalties.
CAF upheld a $100,000 fine against the Moroccan federation for “interference around the VAR review area” and additional fines for the use of lasers by fans during the chaotic and high-stakes championship encounter.
