Semi Ajayi has returned to Championship action after recovering from a severe hamstring injury sustained during the final minutes of Nigeria’s AFCON third-place play-off in January.
Hull City defender Semi Ajayi has revealed the personal frustration behind the “awful” timing of a hamstring injury suffered during the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Nigerian international was sidelined for eight league matches after the issue occurred in the final seconds of the third-place play-off against Egypt.
Having finally returned to the Tigers’ starting lineup, Ajayi is now focused on securing a play-off spot.
Reflecting on the setback, Ajayi admitted the severity of the scan results was unexpected given he had played nearly every minute of the tournament.
He stated: “The timing of it was awful. It was like two minutes to go in the third-place play-off, and I’d played every minute of every game pretty much before that.”
He is now determined to finish the Championship season on a positive note.
