“Biggest scandal in history”: Mido slams CAF over Senegal AFCON stripping

Egyptian football legend Mido has sparked a global controversy by labeling CAF’s decision to strip Senegal of the 2025 AFCON title the “biggest scandal in football history” and calling for a total revolution in African football leadership.

Egypt legend Mido has launched a blistering attack on the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following the unprecedented decision to award Morocco the 2025 AFCON title.

Taking to social media, the former striker condemned the ruling as a stain on the continent’s reputation.

Mido stated: “The decision to take away the Cup from #Senegal and hand it to #Morocco is the biggest scandal in the History of #football.”

The 2006 AFCON winner further targeted CAF President Patrice Motsepe, accusing the organization of serving external interests and destroying the game’s integrity.

Refusing to congratulate Morocco, Mido emphasized that titles should be won on the pitch, not in offices. He added:

“We look now like idiots, backwards, corrupted continent!! Africa deserves better!! There must be a revolution in African football. All these people must go.”
