Xavi Simons out for season and World Cup after acl rupture

Xavi Simons faces six to nine months of recovery after rupturing his ACL at Wolves, ending his season and ending his hopes of representing the Netherlands at the 2026 World Cup.

Tottenham’s Xavi Simons has been ruled out for the remainder of the season and this summer’s World Cup after suffering a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament during Saturday’s 1-0 win at Wolves. The 23-year-old Netherlands midfielder was carried off on a stretcher following a collision with Hugo Bueno and will undergo surgery in the coming weeks.

Simons, signed from RB Leipzig for £52m last August, expressed devastation at the news. “My season has come to an abrupt end and I’m just trying to process it. Honestly, I’m heartbroken. None of it makes sense,” he wrote. The injury deepens Tottenham’s crisis as they sit 18th in the Premier League, two points from safety with four games remaining.
