For years, Arsenal were the team Paris Saint-Germain simply couldn’t beat. Not anymore.
PSG’s dramatic Champions League final victory over Arsenal was about more than lifting another European trophy it was about finally turning the tables on a club that had long been a thorn in their side.
According to Heavy, Arsenal had enjoyed an unbeaten record against the French giants in competitive meetings for decades. From their European Cup Winners’ Cup clashes in the 1990s to Champions League encounters in 2016 and 2024, PSG repeatedly came up short against the North London side.
That all changed in 2025 when PSG defeated Arsenal home and away in the Champions League semi-finals before going on to win their first European crown. Now, they’ve doubled down.
Saturday’s final in Budapest saw PSG once again get the better of Arsenal, winning 4-3 on penalties after a tense 1-1 draw. Kai Havertz gave Arsenal an early lead, but Ousmane Dembele’s second-half penalty dragged PSG level before the French champions held their nerve in the shootout.
The victory secured back-to-back Champions League titles for Luis Enrique’s side and further underlined their transformation into one of Europe’s dominant forces. What was once an awkward matchup has become a source of confidence for PSG.
For Arsenal, the search for a first Champions League title continues. For PSG, meanwhile, the old Arsenal curse is well and truly history.
