Nigeria goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has named France as his new World Cup favourite after originally backing Germany, who were eliminated from the tournament.
Okoye’s World Cup allegiance has shifted. Speaking to Dazed at the Jean Paul Gaultier Fall/Winter 2026 Haute Couture Show in Paris — where he sat front row alongside Cardi B — the Udinese goalkeeper admitted, per Soccernet.ng, that Germany had been his pick before their early exit.
“I was rooting for Germany, but, unfortunately, we are out already, so I think I’ll go with France,” he said.
France have been in dominant form, winning all their group games and cruising past Sweden and Paraguay before facing Morocco in Thursday’s quarter-final. Nigeria did not qualify for this year’s tournament.
