Wayne Rooney says the FA should stick with Thomas Tuchel as England head coach unless there’s a real chance of luring Pep Guardiola.
England’s World Cup dream died hard — a 2-1 semi-final defeat to Argentina, Tuchel’s substitutions under fire, heartbreak all round. But the FA is standing by its man, and so, largely, is Wayne Rooney, according to a report by the BBC.
“I don’t see anyone else out there at the minute, unless you go and get Pep Guardiola,” Rooney said on The Wayne Rooney Show. He praised Tuchel as top-class but flagged his World Cup inexperience, drawing comparisons to Fabio Capello’s tenure.
Rooney also questioned the timing of Tuchel’s contract extension, handed out in February — months before the tournament he was hired to win.
