FIFA Senior Advisor Carlos Cordeiro resigns over Infantino’s FFE proposal

Carlos Cordeiro has resigned as FIFA senior advisor after opposing plans to introduce private investment into the World Cup.

Former U.S. Soccer Federation president and FIFA senior advisor Carlos Cordeiro has resigned amid growing opposition to FIFA’s proposed FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE).

talkSPORT, which first revealed the development, reported that Gianni Infantino is facing increasing resistance from within his own inner circle over the controversial proposal to allow outside investment in FIFA’s flagship competitions.

In a statement, Cordeiro said he could not support plans to sell a stake in the FIFA World Cup. He stressed he had no involvement in developing the proposal and opposed it “unequivocally,” describing it as a bad deal for FIFA’s member associations, football and the game’s long-term future.

His departure adds to mounting pressure on FIFA as consultation over the FFE proposal continues.
