Guimaraes and Woltemade pile misery on Postecoglou

Goals from Bruno Guimaraes and Nick Woltemade gave Newcastle United a crucial victory over Nottingham Forest, increasing the pressure on manager Ange Postecoglou.

Newcastle United beat Nottingham Forest 2-0 at St James’ Park on Sunday, extending Ange Postecoglou’s winless run as manager.

Bruno Guimaraes broke the deadlock shortly before the hour with a curling effort from outside the box, despite protests from Forest players who felt Morgan Gibbs-White had been fouled in the build-up.

Nick Woltemade added a late second from the penalty spot after Guimaraes was brought down by Elliot Anderson, sealing only Newcastle’s second league win of the season.

Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels produced several key saves to keep the score down, denying Sandro Tonali, Malick Thiaw and Harvey Barnes, while Woltemade’s earlier strike rattled the crossbar.

The defeat followed Thursday’s Europa League loss to Midtjylland and leaves Forest 17th in the table. Postecoglou, appointed on 9 September, has yet to secure a victory, with fans at St James’ Park chanting “you’re getting sacked in the morning” at the Australian coach.
