Ange Postecoglou’s winless start at Nottingham Forest continued with a 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United, courtesy of goals from Bruno Guimaraes and Nick Woltemade, marking the club’s worst managerial start in 65 years.
Ange Postecoglou’s difficult start as Nottingham Forest manager continued on Sunday as his side lost 2-0 to Newcastle United, equalling a 65-year club record.
No Forest manager since Andy Beattie in 1960 had failed to win any of their first four league matches, but Postecoglou matched that unwanted feat at St James’ Park.
Bruno Guimaraes opened the scoring just before the hour mark with a curling effort from distance, despite protests from Forest players over a potential foul in the build-up.
Nick Woltemade later converted a penalty to seal Newcastle’s second Premier League victory of the season after being fouled inside the box.
Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels produced key saves to keep his side in contention, but the visitors created little, registering just 0.27 Expected Goals compared to Newcastle’s 3.03.
The defeat leaves Forest in 17th place, one point above the relegation zone, while chants of “you’re getting sacked in the morning” rang out for Postecoglou.
