Qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which began in October 2023, is entering its final stages, with 15 of 45 nations confirmed for the tournament set to hold in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Japan’s Lwin Moe Aung scored the first goal of the campaign in Myanmar’s 5–1 win over Macau. Asia, South America, and Oceania have completed their qualifying rounds, while Africa, Europe, and Concacaf are in the final stretch.

In Africa, Egypt, Senegal, Ghana, and Ivory Coast could book their places this month, joining Morocco and Tunisia, who have already qualified. Europe’s top sides, including France, Spain, Portugal, and England, are also close to securing their spots.

In the Americas, Jamaica and Honduras lead their groups, while Panama, Costa Rica, and Guatemala remain in contention. The final interconfederation playoffs in March 2026 will determine the last two teams in the expanded 48-nation World Cup field.
