Sir Jim Ratcliffe insists Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim needs at least three years to prove his quality, dismissing media pressure for quick success.
Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe says manager Ruben Amorim needs three years to prove he is a “great” coach, despite a poor start to his tenure at Old Trafford.
Amorim, who joined from Sporting last November, oversaw United’s worst league finish in decades and a £200m summer rebuild that has already seen three league defeats and an EFL Cup exit.
Speaking on The Business podcast, Ratcliffe said, “Ruben needs to demonstrate he is a great coach over three years. That’s where I would be,” adding that calls for instant success “come from ignorance.”
He dismissed speculation that the 40-year-old’s job was at risk, saying, “You can’t run a club like Manchester United on knee-jerk reactions.”
Ratcliffe, who owns 30% of the club, also defended recent cost-cutting measures and job cuts, insisting, “The costs were just too high.”
He added that profitability drives football success, stating, “Manchester United will become the most profitable football club in the world, and from that will stem sustainable, high-level football.”
