Haaland missed two early penalties but responded with a hat-trick to lead Norway closer to 2026 World Cup qualification.
Erling Haaland showed his human side after missing two early penalties but still went on to score a hat-trick as Norway defeated Israel 5-0 in a World Cup qualifier in Oslo on Saturday.
The Manchester City striker missed twice from the spot inside the opening minutes, with Israel goalkeeper Daniel Peretz saving both efforts — the second after being ordered to retake the first for stepping off his line. Before this, Haaland had missed only one penalty for Norway.
Despite the rare double miss, the 25-year-old redeemed himself with a composed finish in the 27th minute and added two more goals in the second half to extend his remarkable scoring streak to 10 consecutive matches for club and country.
Norway’s victory leaves them nine points clear of Italy, putting them within touching distance of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup. Haaland, who has now scored 19 goals in those 10 matches, looks set to finally make his World Cup debut next year.
