Denmark beat Greece 3-1 to set up World Cup qualification showdown with Scotland

Denmark defeated Greece 3-1 to end their World Cup hopes and move level on points with Scotland atop Group C.

Denmark cruised to a 3-1 win over Greece in Copenhagen to end the visitors’ World Cup qualification hopes and set up a decisive Group C clash with Scotland.

Rasmus Højlund, on loan at Napoli from Manchester United, opened the scoring in the 21st minute after capitalising on a defensive mistake. Joachim Andersen doubled the lead on 40 minutes before Mikkel Damsgaard struck again just a minute later to make it 3-0 at halftime.

Greece fought back in the second half, with Christos Tzolis pulling one back after 63 minutes, but their hopes of a comeback were dashed by strong Danish defending. Andersen cleared Vangelis Pavlidis’ effort off the line before another Greek goal was ruled out for offside.

The result keeps Denmark level with Scotland on 10 points, with the Danes ahead on goal difference. Greece, third in the group with three points from four games, are now mathematically out of contention.
