A rotated Egypt side beat Guinea-Bissau 1-0 through Mohamed Hamdi’s goal to end World Cup qualifiers top of Group A with 26 points.
Egypt wrapped up their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign with a 1-0 victory over Guinea-Bissau at Cairo International Stadium on Sunday night.
Already assured of a World Cup berth, coach Hossam Hassan rested key stars including Mohamed Salah, Mohamed El Shenawy, and Hamdi Fathy. His rotated squad, however, made an early statement when Mohamed Hamdi scored his first international goal in the 10th minute, finishing off an assist from Ahmed Koka.
The Pharaohs remained in control throughout the match, showing defensive solidity against Guinea-Bissau’s late pressure. Despite efforts from Christos Tzolis and substitute Tamble Monteiro, the visitors could not break through Egypt’s compact backline.
Egypt ended the qualifiers atop Group A with 26 points from 10 matches, having won eight times. The result capped a dominant campaign and keeps them in strong form heading into the Arab Cup in Qatar and the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Guinea-Bissau finished fourth and will now turn to international friendlies after failing to qualify for AFCON 2025.
