Former player Emil Berggreen has called on Denmark’s coaching staff to intervene and prevent Newcastle’s William Osula from switching his international allegiance to Nigeria.
Former Danish international Emil Berggreen has issued a stern warning to the Danish Football Association, urging them to secure the international future of Newcastle United forward William Osula. The 22-year-old, born in Copenhagen to a Danish mother and a Nigerian-French father, is currently at the center of an eligibility battle involving Denmark, Nigeria, England, and France. Osula has been in sensational form in the Premier League, notably scoring a match-winning solo goal against Manchester United in March.
While Osula has represented Denmark at youth levels, he is yet to make his senior debut, leaving the door open for the Nigerian Football Federation’s recruitment efforts. Berggreen emphasized that national coach Brian Riemer must prioritize convincing the young striker to commit to the “red shirt” of Denmark. The urgency follows reports that the Super Eagles are ramping up pressure to persuade the Newcastle standout to represent Nigeria instead.
