Xabi Alonso wants a familiar face in his new dressing room. Chelsea have made a £26 million offer for Sunderland midfielder Granit Xhaka, with the move reportedly requested personally by Alonso, who worked with Xhaka at Bayer Leverkusen, according to GiveMeSport.
Chelsea are expected to back their new boss after a season that left them outside the Champions League places. Despite splashing big on young talent in recent years, Alonso reportedly wants more experience and discipline in the squad.
Xhaka was one of Sunderland’s best performers last season, claiming their Player of the Season award as the newly promoted club secured European football. Still, Sunderland may not be keen to let him go for £26 million.
