Ex-Cardiff City Chairman gets suspended jail term for stealing to fund cocaine habit

A former football club chairman, Karl Morecroft, has been handed a suspended 20-month prison sentence after admitting to stealing £22,491 from RTB Ebbw Vale FC to finance his cocaine addiction.

According to the Gazettengr, Morecroft, 45, disguised the withdrawals as payments for football equipment, council liabilities and other club expenses while leading the Welsh grassroots club between 2023 and 2024.

The Cardiff Crown Court also ordered him to complete 180 hours of unpaid work, undergo 50 rehabilitation days and repay £21,259 within three years or face a 12-month prison term.

The fraud left RTB Ebbw Vale FC struggling financially, forcing the club to borrow funds and delay key maintenance projects while affecting its long-term operations.
