FIFA INTRODUCES CHAMPIONSHIP RINGS FOR WORLD CUP WINNERS

FIFA has announced that winners of the 2026 World Cup will receive championship rings for the first time in tournament history, introducing a new tradition to football, Punch reports. The rings will be presented alongside the trophy and medals, an extra symbol of achievement.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino said the rings honour the players’ feat, similar to championship traditions in other sports. A total of 2,026 individually numbered rings have been produced, with 30 reserved for the winning team and the rest sold to fans as a licensed product.

The initiative arrives as the tournament nears its climax, with the final between Spain and Argentina set for Sunday, July 19, in New Jersey, marking football’s first embrace of the tradition.
