Omar Artan won’t be at the World Cup — but FIFA is making sure he doesn’t go home empty-handed.
The Somali referee, who was held for 11 hours at Miami International Airport before being denied entry over alleged terror links he flatly denies, will receive his full tournament fee despite missing the entire competition. It’s a small consolation for the 2025 CAF Referee of the Year, who called the World Cup “the biggest dream of my life.”
The silver lining? Artan has since been handed a UEFA Super Cup appointment between PSG and Aston Villa in August — and has already set his sights on the 2030 World Cup.
