“Got screwed”—Rubio fumes over Balogun’s World Cup red card decision

Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Thursday he was pleased the U.S. men’s national soccer team advanced to the round of 16 at the World Cup after a 2-0 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina on Wednesday night in Santa Clara, California.

“It’s great,” Rubio told a reporter at the White House, according to The Hill.

But Rubio had a much different reaction to the red card shown to American striker Folarin Balogun, which will sideline him for the U.S.’s next match against Belgium on Monday in Seattle.

“They got screwed with that red card,” Rubio said. “There needs to be an appeal process for that. It’s probably too late for that.”
