The Czech Football Association has become the first national federation to publicly support Gianni Infantino’s controversial proposal to attract private investment into the commercial operations of future FIFA World Cups.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino has received his first public backing for his proposal to sell minority stakes in the commercial rights of future World Cups after Czech Football Association president David Trunda endorsed the plan.
According to Metro, Trunda believes the creation of FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) and the proposed investment model could generate additional funding to support football development in the Czech Republic, with FIFA promising member associations access to as much as $40 million each if the proposal is approved before the September 19 deadline.
The proposal has, however, drawn fierce opposition from UEFA and England’s Football Association over concerns about governance and the growing influence of private investors in the sport.
UEFA is expected to hold an emergency meeting with its 55 member associations, while FIFA maintains the plan could unlock a $10 billion funding package from January 2027 if approved.
