MBAPPÉ TO ITALY: FIND YOUR OWN COACH
Kylian Mbappé has a message for Italy — and it’s not subtle.
With reports linking outgoing France coach Didier Deschamps to the Azzurri job, Mbappé moved quickly to shut it down. “Italy should look for an Italian. Didier is French, he’s ours,” the star striker said in an interview with M6, per World Soccer Talk.
It’s no mystery why Italy came calling. Deschamps won the World Cup as both player and coach — one of only three men ever to do so — and his contract expires after this tournament following 14 years in charge.
Italy, meanwhile, have missed three straight World Cups. They’re desperate. But Mbappé isn’t budging.
“It would be painful,” he said plainly. Message delivered.
