Mbappé fires back at Paraguayan senator over racist remark

France captain Kylian Mbappé has condemned Paraguayan Senator Celeste Amarilla as “despicable” after she posted racist and dehumanizing comments about him following France’s 1-0 World Cup win over Paraguay.

MBAPPE SLAMS PARAGUAYAN SENATOR OVER RACIST REMARKS

Amarilla’s remarks, posted on X after Saturday’s Round of 16 defeat, mocked Mbappé’s heritage, upbringing and education in deeply offensive language. Mbappé fired back on the same platform, telling Amarilla she did not represent Paraguay, a country that had shown passion and honour throughout the tournament. He said her recklessness and racism had overshadowed the achievements of Paraguay’s players, and vowed never to let people like her spread hatred unchallenged.

The French Football Federation branded the remarks “criminal and reprehensible,” confirming it had referred the matter to prosecutors, according to Vanguard. FFF president Philippe Diallo said he fully backed Mbappé and the squad. Paraguay’s Vice President Pedro Alliana also distanced the government from Amarilla, insisting football should unite people rather than allow room for discrimination. Mbappé’s penalty had earlier sent France into the quarter-finals.
