Neymar ruled out of Brazil’s World Cup opener

Brazil will start their FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign without superstar forward Neymar after a calf injury ruled him out of Saturday’s Group F opener against Morocco.

Coach Carlo Ancelotti confirmed the 34-year-old has not trained since joining the squad and could miss the entire group stage as he continues rehabilitation. Brazil will also face Haiti and Scotland in their remaining group matches.

Despite fitness concerns, Ancelotti said Neymar’s experience and leadership remain valuable to the squad chasing a record sixth World Cup title.

Morocco, meanwhile, insist the injury setback will not affect their preparations. Head coach Mohamed Ouahbi said his side had planned for both scenarios, while captain Achraf Hakimi admitted he would have loved to face the Brazilian star.
