Real Madrid launches €4.5 billion lawsuit against UEFA

Real Madrid and the Super League promoting company A22 are reportedly filing a colossal €4.5 billion lawsuit against UEFA, demanding compensation for damages following a favourable court ruling for the breakaway competition.

Real Madrid, alongside the company promoting the Super League, A22, are reportedly preparing to file a massive lawsuit against UEFA, seeking compensation in the region of €4.5 billion.

This unprecedented legal action follows a ruling by the Provincial Court of Madrid earlier this week, which favoured the Super League in its long-running dispute with UEFA, La Liga, and the RFEF.

According to a report relayed by Madrid Universal, the claim for compensation stems directly from the damages the clubs and A22 allege they suffered due to UEFA’s anti-competitive actions.

The legal filing demands that European football’s governing body must “compensate for the damages suffered” by all parties involved in the Super League project.

The colossal sum of up to €4.5 billion is said to cover both “reputational damage and a loss of profit” stemming from the inability to launch the competition successfully.

Real Madrid and A22 further claim that the numerous meetings held with UEFA, ostensibly to reach a mutual agreement for the new competition, were conducted in bad faith.

They allege that UEFA “never had any intention of reaching an agreement and participated in the meetings only to delay the formation of the competition and find a way to prevent it from coming to life.”

This legal move relies on the premise that UEFA misused its dominant market position to impede free competition, a point reinforced by the recent Spanish court ruling.
