Midfielder Richard Ríos has reportedly lost his starting spot in the Colombian national team following a dispute over James Rodríguez’s defensive work rate.
According to journalist Carlos Antonio Vélez, Richard Ríos being dropped to the bench is not solely due to his performance.
The midfielder reportedly grew tired of exhausting himself physically to cover for James Rodríguez, complaining about the situation to both manager Néstor Lorenzo and his teammates.
During a match, Ríos demanded that James also help press the opponent’s build-up play, which triggered an on-field argument between the two. Since that heated exchange, the midfielder has lost his place in the starting lineup.
