SALAH WRITES HISTORY IN VANCOUVER

Egypt needed a hero. Mohamed Salah answered.

The Pharaohs survived an almighty scare before coming from behind to beat New Zealand 3-1 at BC Place in Vancouver, recording their first-ever World Cup victory, per Daily Mail.

It was New Zealand — the tournament’s lowest-ranked side — who struck first, with Portland Timbers’ Finn Surman powering home a header to give the underdogs a shock lead they held until just before the hour mark.

Egypt levelled through Mostafa Ziko, before the moment the crowd was waiting for — Salah, 34, stepping up to fire Egypt ahead. The Liverpool star then turned provider, whipping in a corner that Trezeguet headed home at the near post to seal a 3-1 win.

An earlier draw between Belgium and Iran opened the door, and Egypt walked right through it — moving top of Group G with one game to play.

Next up: Iran in Seattle on Friday. A draw sends Egypt through.

Salah’s country has never had it so good at a World Cup.
