A Scotland supporter’s dream World Cup trip turned into heartbreak after his US travel permit was revoked just an hour before departure.
Michael Wright, who had travelled from Australia for Scotland’s matches, said his ESTA status suddenly changed from “approved” to “travel not authorised” at Manchester Airport. The fan, who spent thousands on the trip, said US authorities provided no explanation for the last-minute reversal.
Dozens of Scotland supporters have reportedly faced similar issues ahead of the tournament. Scottish First Minister John Swinney has urged US officials to resolve the matter quickly so affected fans do not miss out.
